Unveiled during Banksy’s 2013 New York residency Better Out Than In, Sirens of the Lambs was a darkly humorous performance piece that toured the city streets. A modified slaughterhouse truck carried animatronic stuffed animals sheep, pigs, chickens and cows squeaking and twitching through the metal slats.

At first glance, the truck looked playful, almost like a child’s toy display. Yet the animals’ distressed movements and sounds revealed a deeper purpose: a stark critique of the meat industry and society’s indifference to animal suffering. By pairing soft toys with the horror of industrial slaughter, Banksy provoked discomfort, empathy, and reflection.

From the Meatpacking District to Times Square, the work captivated and unsettled passers-by, forcing them to confront hidden systems of cruelty in everyday life. Sirens of the Lambs remains one of Banksy’s most memorable interventions a moving protest that combined absurdity, activism, and theatrical spectacle.
