Pulp Fiction
2002
Print on Paper

Pulp Fiction (Bananas) is one of Banksy’s most recognisable film-inspired works, paying homage to Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 classic. In the stencil, the characters Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega replace their guns with bananas a witty inversion that parodies gun culture while undermining Hollywood’s glorification of violence.
The original mural, near Old Street in London, was painted over by London Transport in 2002, deemed “a contributing factor to social decay.” Banksy retaliated with a variant showing the pair dressed in full banana suits, brandishing pistols mocking censorship as much as gun culture.
Later, the piece was vandalised, prompting Banksy to create a memorial tribute to fellow graffiti writer Ozone, who died on the London Underground tracks. In 2012, a print of Pulp Fiction (Bananas) sold at auction for £10,600, reflecting both its popularity and cultural resonance.
