Laugh Now Monkey Signboard
2003
Print on Aluminium

This rare variation of Laugh Now features a stenciled monkey on a triangular warning sign. Originally created in 2002, the image critiques social hierarchy and control. The monkey often used by Banksy as a symbol of the voiceless wears a blank sandwich board, referencing the original version which read:
“Laugh now, but one day we’ll be in charge.”
By repurposing an industrial sign, Banksy blurs the line between street art and protest, transforming a symbol of caution into a call for change.
