Di-Faced Tenner
2004
Offset Lithograph

In 2004, Banksy printed around 100,000 fake £10 notes replacing Queen Elizabeth II with Princess Diana, playfully titled Di-Faced (a pun on “defaced”). Scattered at festivals, many were mistaken for real money.
The notes feature lines such as “Banksy of England” and “I promise to pay the bearer on demand the ultimate price,” referencing Diana’s tragic death. Some also read “Trust No One” under Charles Darwin.
Later, fragments of Di-Faced Tenners were used as certificates of authenticity for Banksy works. In 2019, the British Museum acquired one, recognising it as both satirical art and protest currency.
