Bomb Hugger
2003
Print on Paper

Banksy’s Bomb Hugger also known as Bomb Love depicts a young girl embracing a bomb as if it were a favourite toy. The disarming tenderness of the child set against the deadly object creates a jarring, unforgettable image.
The work critiques society’s disturbing acceptance of warfare and the normalisation of weapons, often treated as if they were just another commodity. Yet there is also a glimmer of hope: through innocence and compassion, even violence might be transformed or disarmed. Bomb Hugger embodies Banksy’s ability to fuse satire with poignancy, delivering both protest and possibility in a single image.
