Stop Me Before I Paint Again
2004
Paint on Canvas

Stop Me Before I Paint Again encapsulates Banksy’s wry perspective on the different ways individuals attempt to change society. The piece was shown in Banksy: The Unauthorised Retrospective at S/2 London in 2014, curated by Steve Lazarides.
Banksy once remarked:
“Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place. Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better-looking place.”
This statement highlights his view of vandalism and street art as alternative if subversive forms of civic contribution. While some pursue order through law enforcement, others disrupt it in the name of creativity, beauty, and critique.
