Sprung Horse
2006
Print on Canvas

Sprung Horse presents a 19th-century British soldier absurdly mounted on a children’s toy horse. With this playful inversion, Banksy critiques Britain’s historic role in invasions and questions the significance of military action when stripped of its grandeur. By reducing the soldier to a figure engaged in a child’s game, the piece highlights the futility of war and the performative nature of authority. At once humorous and biting, the work reflects Banksy’s ongoing use of satire to expose the illusions of power.
