Morons (Sepia)
2007
Print on Paper

Morons often subtitled “I Can’t Believe You Morons Actually Buy This Shit” captures an auctioneer presiding over a crowded sale room. First shown at Banksy’s Barely Legal exhibition in Los Angeles, the piece offers one of his most direct critiques of the art market.
With biting irony, Banksy highlights the commodification of his work and the absurdity of speculative value. The scene underscores the disparity between his anti-establishment street practice and the transformation of those same images into highly prized commodities.
At Barely Legal, 100 unsigned prints were released at $500 each. In subsequent years, additional colourways and editions were published through Pictures on Walls in the UK, widening its circulation. The work remains a touchstone in Banksy’s commentary on the contradictions of the art world.
