HMV
2003
Print on Paper

HMV reimagines the logo of the iconic British music and entertainment retailer, founded in 1921. In Banksy’s stencilled version, the dog traditionally shown gazing faithfully into the record player’s horn now wields a rocket launcher aimed at it. This biting twist turns a symbol of loyalty and nostalgia into a sharp critique of the music industry.
First appearing as a painting in the early 2000s, in varying sizes and background colours, HMV was later released as a print. The edition comprises 600 unsigned and 150 signed impressions, making it one of Banksy’s most recognisable satirical takes on corporate imagery.
