Weston-super-Mare
2003
Print on Paper

Weston-super-Mare pays homage to the British seaside town while revealing Banksy’s trademark dark humour. Executed in monochrome stencil style, the scene shows an elderly man peacefully seated on a bench, oblivious to the imminent threat of a circular saw tearing through the promenade.
The location is significant: Weston-Super-Mare in North Somerset, later the site of Banksy’s infamous 2015 project Dismaland a dystopian “bemusement park” described as unsuitable for children. The vintage seaside-poster aesthetic contrasts sharply with the perilous image, creating a biting irony between leisure and looming danger. The work resonates as a reminder to embrace life’s fleeting beauty, even under the shadow of uncertainty.
