Visit Historic Palestine
2018
Screen-print on Paper

Visit Historic Palestine (2018) is one of Banksy’s politically charged screen prints, created in conjunction with his projects in Bethlehem and the West Bank. The work mimics the design of a vintage tourism poster, with stylised lettering inviting viewers to “Visit Historic Palestine.” Yet instead of idyllic scenery, the image is dominated by the grey concrete slabs of the Israeli separation wall, its looming presence casting a shadow over the landscape.
By appropriating the cheerful visual language of mid-20th-century travel advertisements, Banksy highlights the dissonance between glossy promotional imagery and harsh political realities. The piece exposes the contradictions of tourism in occupied territories, where visitors might be lured by history and culture but are confronted with walls, checkpoints, and conflict. Produced as a signed and numbered edition, Visit Historic Palestine exemplifies Banksy’s method of reworking familiar visual tropes into biting social commentary, here turning nostalgia for carefree travel into a sharp reminder of division and displacement.
