Love is in the Air
2003
Screen-print on Paper

Banksy’s Love Is In The Air also known as Flower Thrower or LIITA is one of his most iconic works. The image portrays a masked protester mid-throw, but instead of a rock or Molotov cocktail, he hurls a bouquet of flowers. The pose recalls scenes of civil unrest, yet the substitution transforms the act into a universal symbol of peace and resistance.
In this variation, a bold red background heightens the work’s urgency, evoking passion, revolution and the tension between violence and compassion. Originally painted on a wall in Jerusalem near a site of political conflict, the piece critiques the futility of violence and elevates love as a force for change. As with much of Banksy’s work, Love Is In The Air harnesses contradiction to challenge how protest, power and peace are expressed in the modern world.
