Anarchy Rat
2007
Spray Paint on Wood

“Anarchist Rat”, is part of his long-running rat motif, it shows a stencilled rat holding up a protest placard marked with the anarchist “A” symbol. The rat, often described by Banksy as a metaphor for the overlooked and unwanted, becomes here a stand-in for resistance and rebellion. By equipping the rat with a protest sign, Banksy connects urban decay, political defiance, and the persistence of those who operate outside mainstream power. The artwork was originally released as a limited-edition screen print, published by Pictures on Walls in 2007. Editions included both signed and unsigned versions, making it one of the more recognisable and sought-after prints from this period.
